Facebook Custom Audiences[edit | edit source]

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Facebook Custom Audiences integration allows you to connect your Facebook Ads accounts to your ActiveCampaign account. Once connected, you can use automation to add and remove contacts from your Facebook Custom Audience.

How the Facebook Custom Audiences Integration Works[edit | edit source]

Once connected, this integration syncs the Facebook audience with the subtype "Customer List." No other audience types sync to ActiveCampaign. Additionally, this integration syncs the names of your lists from your Facebook audience only; it does not sync contacts from those lists to your ActiveCampaign account.

Adding and Removing Contacts from Your Facebook Custom Audience[edit | edit source]

Two automation actions are available for adding and removing contacts from your Facebook Custom Audience:

  • Add to Facebook Custom Audience
  • Remove from Facebook Custom Audience

Only contacts who interact with these two actions are added to or removed from your Facebook Custom Audience.

Facebook Custom Audience Conditions in the Segment Builder[edit | edit source]

Two segment conditions are available for creating segments of contacts who were added to or removed from a Facebook Custom Audience:

  • Is in Facebook audience: Displays all contacts added to the specified Facebook Custom Audience.
  • Is not in Facebook audience: Displays all contacts removed from the specified Facebook Custom Audience.

Only contacts who were added to or removed from your custom audience through the automation actions listed above will appear in these results. Contacts who were added to or removed from your Facebook Custom Audience outside of these two automation actions will not appear in your results.

  2. Click the Add Integration button.
  3. A modal window will appear. Click Connect for the Facebook option.
  4. A new window or tab will open. Log into your Facebook account and follow the authorization prompts.
  5. When finished, click the OK button. You will be redirected back to your ActiveCampaign account.
  6. A modal window will appear. Click the Select an account dropdown and choose the Facebook Ads account you want to connect.
  7. Click the Finish button. Your Facebook Ads account is now connected to ActiveCampaign.

Adding and Removing Contacts from Facebook Custom Audiences[edit | edit source]

Once you set up the integration, you can use automation actions to add and remove contacts from your audience. Only contacts who reach either step in your automation will be added to or removed from the Custom Audience you specify. You can find these actions in the Contacts section of the automation action menu.

To add either of these actions to your automation:

  1. Click the Contacts option in the right sidebar from your automation.
  2. Drag the action to your automation.
  3. Configure the action.
  4. Click Save.

If you turn off or disconnect the integration, contacts will skip these actions in your automations.

About the "Add to Facebook Custom Audience" Automation Action[edit | edit source]

With this action, you will select the Facebook Ads account and the Custom Audience. Note that you can also create a new Facebook Custom Audience. If you create a new Custom Audience, it will be of the "Customer List" subtype, which is the most common audience that Facebook offers.

To create a new Facebook Custom Audience with this action:

  1. Click Create a new Facebook Custom Audience in the action modal.
  2. Select the Facebook Ads Account.
  3. Type the Custom Audience Name.
  4. Type the Custom Audience Description.
  5. Click Save.

As contacts move through this action, their Activity Stream will display the audience they were added to and the name of the automation containing that action. You can find a contact's Activity Stream on their profile record.

About the "Remove from Facebook Custom Audience" Automation Action[edit | edit source]

With this automation action, you will select the Facebook Ads account and the Custom Audience. As contacts move through this action, they are removed from your Facebook Custom Audience. Additionally, their Activity Stream will display the audience they were removed from and the automation containing that action.

Managing the Facebook Custom Audience Integration[edit | edit source]

You can manage your Facebook Custom Audiences connection from the Settings > Integrations page in your ActiveCampaign account. Clicking the Manage button lets you:

  • Turn the connected Facebook Ads account Off or On
  • Sync historical data
  • Reconnect the Facebook Custom Audience integration

Reconnecting the Integration[edit | edit source]

If you are experiencing issues with your Facebook Custom Audience integration, we recommend reconnecting the integration. Reconnecting your integration will reauthenticate it, which can resolve errors that may interrupt data syncing.

To reconnect the integration:

  1. Go to the Settings > Integrations page in your ActiveCampaign account.
  2. Click the Manage button.
  3. Click the Reconnect option.

Deleting the Integration[edit | edit source]

The Delete integration option should only be used if you no longer use that Facebook Custom Audience. If you are experiencing issues with your Facebook Custom Audience integration, try to reconnect your integration first. If that does not help and you still use the Facebook Custom Audience, contact our Customer Experience Team for assistance.

Note that once the integration is deleted, customer data will not sync to ActiveCampaign, but you will not lose any previously synced data.

To delete the integration:

  1. Go to the Settings > Integrations page in your ActiveCampaign account.
  2. Click the Manage button.
  3. Click Delete integration.
