With low-carb diets becoming extremely popular, many people are searching for ways to get their alcohol fix without taking in a large amount of carbohydrates. Just because you want to cut carbs doesn't mean you can't also enjoy a few drinks.
Luckily for drinkers seeking low-carb selections, there are plenty of options available. However, making smart decisions is key. Most beers are actually low on carbohydrates. In recent times, beer manufacturers have gone out of their way to promote the low-carb nature of their beverages. Even people who are trying to lose weight can have beer regularly. Also, like most beverages, beer contains little to no fat.
There are also other low-carb alcoholic options besides beer. A glass of red wine only has about 2 grams of carbs, while white wine only has 1 gram. Spirits, such as gin, vodka, brandy, tequila and rum contain no carbs whatsoever. However, drinkers will have to be careful about what mixers they use.
As far as drinks to avoid, liqueurs generally have large amounts of carbs, and they should be avoided. Other alcoholic options such as Irish cream, amaretto, triple sec and cointreau should also be left out of the picture.
Of course, just because certain alcoholic beverages are low in carbs doesn't mean they should be consumed excessively. Always remember to be responsible when drinking!
